Doug Preddy | Normal Running | Buffer tank empty |
Came down to check on system. CV211 was fully open, trying to charge the
system. Ripples on LHe in and PL neg. CV141 fully closed. I closed CV147 to
0.45 to try and move CV141 open. Checked the buffer tank pressure, it was
almost at zero. Lowering the liquid level to 40%. |

Doug Preddy | Quench Recovery | Another power bump |
Compressor tripped off again due to a power bump. Meson hall water off, so
vacuum pumps off again.
Pumps back on , vacuum pumps on, starting compressor. |

Willy Andersson | Quench Recovery | Additional notes from last night power lead problems. |
When performing last nights refrigerator adjustments I also increased the
compressor discharge pressure to 11.25 barA. Also the backup air compressor
was tripped off again and I reset it. Finally I opened the city water flow
to the compressor water package chiller. PI110-1 reads 9.25 barA and PI120-1
reads just over 4 barA. Both power lead flowmeters pegged to top of scale.
Reset the "first trip" device that Don Dale had loaned us.
This morning the power leads had crept up slightly but still well below
trip settings. Oscillations have not appeared yet. LHe vessel heater at
about 14 to 15 %. Shield heat at about 16 %. Saved screen shots of
m9_solenoid.dl and striptool windows to files may6_04_0900.BMP and
may6_04_0905.BMP. TE106 is 81.6 Kelvin. Solenoid Current is stable at 404
Amps. (DVM meter reads 20.2) Both power lead flowmeters still pegged to top
of scale.
Closed HIC142 for 1 second then opened it wide open again to see effect on
power lead flows. Other than the initial blip they just fall back to their
previous value, no improvement. See file may6_04_0915.BMP. Adjusting
turbine speeds slightly. Going to take a check in the compressor building
then going on to other work. |

Willy Andersson | Quench Recovery | // cold mode cooling continues. |
After restarting flow to the solenoid yesterday in // cold return mode
TIC121 just refused to go lower than about 29K even when we closed CV155
all the way. Tried various things, switching to // warm return, changing
opening of CV155, setting TIC121 to auto, even tapping TIC121. Finally
tried reducing flow to solenoid by reducing // warm return valves to about
70% open to see if possible to cool just refrigerator a bit.
TIC121 temp fell a bit and then inlet temperatures to solenoid began to
fall and solenoid slowly began to cool even though the mass flow to the
solenoid was reduced. Guess is that with solenoid homogeneusly at about 30K
there was not much resistance to flow so turbine massflow was starved just
enough to stall further cooling.
After temps were on a good downward trend Doug switched to //cold return.
At about 16:00 yesterday I reduced CV155 to about 70% and waited a bit to
confirm that temps were falling and then left the system to cool until
later that evening. |
