330   Mon Aug 9 10:38:43 2010 Damien Gallop  4He1+ Setup for SCC Development

We have a request for changing over the source to 4He1+ operation from the MWS.

Later... OLIS opened. Canister purged with N2 and pumped via IOS, then valved off and disconnected. ICR has restored a recent 4He1+ tune.

412   Mon Jul 18 09:53:05 2011 Damien Gallop  4He from MCIS to HERACLES done Saturday and Sunday

Keerthi came in on Saturday morning and set up the Supernanogan source for 4He delivery. It looks like it went well. The original intent was to use the MWS for this, but sputtering got in the way. He also came in yesterday to tweak the recipe to minimize 16O4+ and 12C3+ (A/q=4) contribution to the beam. The run finished last night.

432   Thu Sep 8 11:21:45 2011 Damien Gallop  4He from MCIS to DRAGON Setup

The 58Ni delivery from MWS to TITAN ended last evening. Beam was unused from about 18:30, and source switchover began at about 22:00. A 4He1+ beam from MCIS was established by 03:00 this morning. Around 35pA is available on FC6 presently. Note that at A/q=4, there are likely contributions from 12C+3 and 16O+4.

Delivery continued through the weekend. Some 300nA on FC6. The run ended at around 09:00. Source switchover is in progress now.

  443   Tue Sep 27 13:29:23 2011 Damien Gallop  36/40Ar development with MCIS

Beam development for forthcoming 36Ar run is in progress. Initial yield numbers have been determined. Source is running with Ar plasma presently, and tests will be repeated after source has conditioned for a while. The goal is to determine yield numbers of 40Ar and scale these to beam to be produced with source gas of enriched 36Ar. FYI:

Naturally occuring isotopes of argon:

Ar-36 ( 0.3365% )
Ar-38 ( 0.0632% )
Ar-40 ( 99.6003% )

  444   Wed Sep 28 11:56:15 2011 Damien Gallop  36/40Ar development with MCIS

40Ar source gas, ergo 40Ar+x beams. 40Ar+6 earlier, and 40Ar+7 presently.

  445   Thu Sep 29 10:50:30 2011 Damien Gallop  36/40Ar development with MCIS

Development with Supernanogan source continues. Present beam is 40Ar+7, about 70enA.

  327   Thu Aug 5 18:56:48 2010 Damien Gallop  35Cl2+ setup for DRAGON

OLIS off Wednesday morning for source changeover from 16O3+ to 35Cl2+. We have elected to use the MWS for this run. Supernanogan is removed from OLIS and parked at its service dock. Lots of leakchecking done on both sources. Both sources are under high vacuum presently and improving. MWS will be ready to start in the morning.

  328   Fri Aug 6 09:50:22 2010 Damien Gallop  35Cl2+ setup for DRAGON

First beam appearing on FC6 presently, after the source pumped overnight. Source gas valving set up earlier this morning.

Later... We have a whopping 5nA of 35Cl1+. We expect orders of magnitude more. Mass scans and investigation in progress.

Later... Another scan after some source gas changes. Much better. 35Cl+1 = 575nA 35Cl+2 = 3.5pnA with 1mm slits.

Neon support gas hand valve is closed. Source wuill require expert intervention to reignite, if there is a power bump, etc.

Later... Final tweaking done. ~10enA on FC6 with 1mm slits in, and ~23enA with 2.5mm slits in. A Stripchart of the last little while, plus present IOS tune and skimmers. Hand over to ICR at 13:25.

  329   Mon Aug 9 09:09:36 2010 Damien Gallop  35Cl2+ for DRAGON

Beam ran quietly over the weekend, with the anticipated intensity drop-off. Source gas canister at ~15"Hg and IOS at 3.3e-7 presently. Several DRAGON energy changes were done as planned.

Later... at ~09:45 DRAGON is done.

Sulfur-33 development completed successfully.
Three times of the requested amount produced (1e9 x 3) from the source and two times
delivered to the DRAGON for verification.
The SO2 gas bottle is removed and stored in the ISAC gas shack.
147   Wed Sep 30 15:30:04 2009 Damien Gallop  33S6+ from MCIS for DRAGON setup

Beam is stable enough to let Marco set up something to DRAGON. We are a couple of days early.

Also, we tested the attenuators, previously noted to be operating oddly:

A sustained 33S5+ beam was generated in the Supernanogan on Friday, September 25th. Attached is a trar plot.

Source gas: SO2 through either of two calibrated leaks: 10-4 and 10-5ccm.

FC6 = 1enA.

33S particle rate: 1e9Hz.

A/q = 6.6

Bias used = 13.881kV.

454   Mon Oct 24 10:10:34 2011 Damien Gallop  33S+6 from MCIS to DRAGON

Delivery since Friday Beam on but intensity is dropping, suggesting that enriched 33S powder is running out. Plan in place to add more this evening.

455   Tue Oct 25 09:41:32 2011 Damien Gallop  33S+6 from MCIS to DRAGON

Beam petered out earlier this morning after an attempt to tweak the RF frequency. Restored. Plasma was on throughout. ICR has lowered RF amplitude to match beam intensity to yesterday's running conditions.
