The Supernanogan is producing 74Ge using the heater source, a first for the Supernanogan. Development done over the last couple of days and completed yesterday. Tuning using mass 76 (76Ge or 76Se?) was done last night. Energy is set at 12.24kV, same as previous 12C2+ run. Beam is being used as TITAN pilot beam for their 74Kr run.

Beam remained on FC6 overnight. Beam was used for a tune check this morning. At noon today beam was switched to 4He.

Later... Outcome of 4He development with Supernanogan: beam comes with other isotopes. e.g. 12C3+ and 16O4+. Verdict: 4He1+ beam is better produced with the MWS.

Later... By request, set up source for 74Ge beam again. ~30pA on FC6 by ~midnight.

Entry  Mon Jul 26 09:41:46 2010, Damien Gallop, , , 74Ge1+ to TITAN

Beam is sitting on FC6 presently. Good source operation over the weekend. Some pics to come. RIB delivery to TITAN ended at 08:30 this morning. OLIS is scheduled for a beam switch tomorrow morning.

Later... A power bump knocked us out cold again. It appears that the Safety Enable bit was lost.

Source switchover from MCIS to MWS. Support gases and liners were pre-fitted. Source lit. Optics set for 20keV operation. ~50pA on FC6.

Entry  Wed Aug 31 12:12:39 2011, Damien Gallop, , , 58Ni1+ from MWS to TITAN Setup Picture_37.pngPicture_38.png

Beam on FC6 drifted overnight. Touch up a few things, notably the EE. 25pA on FC6 presently. I also increased microwave power for effect.

Later... about 25pA on FC6. Somewhat noisy, but also stable. I left microwave at 700W. Beam handed over to ICR at ~13:15.

A note about mass flow controller. The new Hastings controllers do indeed shut off completely at zero setting. It should be noted that control in the sub-1sccm region is challenging. Move in 0.01 steps. I found that everything was fine down to 0.15sccm. The next step after that, i.e. to 0.14, closed the flow entirely. Not a crisis in this situation.

Beam was established yesterday. It has grown nicely overnight.

Entry  Fri Sep 2 10:04:55 2011, Damien Gallop, , , 58Ni1+ from MWS to TITAN 9x

Beam idled overnight. Average ~50pA at FC6. About half that on ILE2T:FC3 presently. Setup on TITAN side in progress.

Later... ICR is concerned about the OLIS separator magnet wandering during the day. It's sunny today, so I would expect a little more wandering than on a rainy day. Also, they have significantly higher current at A/q >58.1 and asked if there could be another mass in the mix. Checking.

Later... TITAN takes coffee break. Opportunity to do a mass scan and also tweak source. Confirmed that centroid of mass peak is ~58.2. (Note: Slits left open for scan, so resolution is low.)

Note: Since this morning magnet adjustments, there are some 200pA of beam at FC6.

Pilot beam delivery continues. Keerthi came in over the Labor Day weekend to help out on something.

Beam is scheduled for one more day. A source change is scheduled for 20:30 tomorrow.

Entry  Wed Sep 7 09:50:20 2011, Damien Gallop, , , 58Ni1+ from MWS to TITAN Picture_52.png

Delivery continues. Source change scheduled for 20:30 this evening.

From MCIS. It looks like things went fairly well over the weekend for them. An interlock glitch on MCIS:IV1 this morning, source pressure went slightly above MCIS:IG1 "Good" threshold. I have suggested to Tiffany that raising the "Good" threshold to 1e-7 might be a good idea. Because we are intentionally running with MCIS:TP3 off, the source pressure is higher. It's right on the edge of the current "Good" threshold. Attached is a trar of the MCIS pressure trend, which looks healthy.

Beam mostly idle overnight. Things are resuming now.

Entry  Wed Jun 29 09:45:50 2011, Damien Gallop, , , 58Ni from MCIS to TITAN 8x

Last hours and minutes. Going well. Documentation appended. Users have requested beam until noon.

Note: We are using the MWS bias and EE power supplies on the Supernanogan source for this run, to provide source bias and also sputter chamber bias for the Supernanogan.

Entry  Fri Jun 24 15:11:20 2011, Damien Gallop, , , 58Ni from MCIS to FC6 Setup

OLIS was switched from 22Ne2+ (MWS) to 58Ni+1 (MCIS). Works like magic. 100epA presently.

Entry  Wed Jul 28 09:23:57 2010, Damien Gallop, , , 4He1+ for TIGRESS Picture_1.png

Source switchover went quite well yesterday morning. About 6nA of beam on FC6. Beam idle overnight. Tuning has resumed now.

Entry  Thu Jul 29 15:31:21 2010, Damien Gallop, , , 4He1+ for TIGRESS

Beam in use intermittently.

Entry  Tue Aug 10 09:30:36 2010, Damien Gallop, , , 4He1+ for SCC Development Picture_2.png

Beam idle overnight, and grew nicely. Source tweaked up and throttled back a little while ago. SCC development expected to continue today.

Entry  Wed Aug 11 10:35:03 2010, Damien Gallop, , , 4He1+ for SCC Development Picture_1.png

Beam used into last evening, then idle overnight. Nice and stable. Maintenance Day for the cyclotron and ISAC.

Entry  Fri Aug 13 09:27:49 2010, Damien Gallop, , , 4He1+ for SCC Development Picture_12.png

MWS is running nicely. SCC development continues. This is scheduled to end on this coming Tuesday morning. It will likely continue for a couple of days, after which there would be a beam switch to 16O2+ from the MWS for TUDA-II setup.

Entry  Mon Sep 20 09:34:44 2010, Damien Gallop, , , 4He1+ for DRAGON

MCIS Development finished Friday evening. OLIS switched to MWS operation and setup began for 4He1+ delivery to DRAGON. Beam handed over to experiment last night.
